Abiy grew up in Addis Ababa. He received his B.A. Degree in Fine Arts and Design from Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art. Abiy Graduated the Class of 2009. He is a full time artist and lives with his wife and two children in Addis.
Abby specializes in mixed media art, skillfully blending photography and painting to create vivid, dynamic compositions. His creative process often begins in the early morning, when he ventures out into the streets of Addis Ababa to capture spontaneous moments with his camera. These photographs serve as the foundation for his work. Later, in the studio, he layers them with expressive brushstrokes, textures, and vibrant colors. The result is a series of artworks that reflect the energy, movement, and everyday rhythm of life in the bustling capital city.
Abiy finds his inspiration through his fascination with the City’s Unity in Diversity… “I always focus on religious umbrella color combinations and color attribution. from the surrounding and daily lives of ordinary people, the loves and sorrows, violence against the government and oneself challenges and celebrations.”
