Basel was born in Addis Ababa and earned his BA in Fine Arts from Addis Ababa University. Now 29 years old, he is a full-time studio artist living and working in Addis Ababa.
Basel’s work focuses primarily on portraiture, with a particular emphasis on women from various regions of Ethiopia and across the African continent. His realistic style is strikingly lifelike—often resembling a photograph—capturing not only physical detail but also the dignity and spirit of his subjects.
