Kidane Getaw

Kidane Getaw was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he continues to live and work as a full-time studio artist. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts from Addis Ababa University and is currently 31 years old.

Kidane’s artistic focus centers on the beauty, strength, and individuality of women. He is particularly inspired by the unique and intricate features of the female face, which he portrays with sensitivity and depth. His work consists primarily of women’s portraits, often incorporating elements of fidel—the traditional Ethiopian script—into his compositions. This integration of language and image adds a poetic layer to his work, connecting identity, heritage, and visual expression.

Through his art, Kidane celebrates womanhood while also exploring the cultural richness of Ethiopia. His portraits are both intimate and symbolic, reflecting his appreciation for the elegance and diversity of his subjects.
