Michael was born in a town called Harar. The core of the Harari society is built around kinship, friendships, and community organizations. He graduated with his BA in Fine Arts of Addis Ababa University. He is a 43 years old, a full-time studio artist and lives in Addis.
Michael works with only mix media. Michael’s work is deeply influenced by both his personal experiences and the rich cultural backdrop for Ethiopia. He incorporates elements like doors from Harar and the traditions of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Using mixed media like photography combined with acrylic on canvas gives his work a layer of depth, blending the tangible with the abstract.
